Are you constantly envious of those women who always seem to keep their family room clean and organized? One of the rooms in the house that has the most potential to breed chaos is the family room. It is usually centrally located in the house and has the majority of the daily activities. Toys, games and DVD’s can really add up to disaster quickly. Below are quick and easy solutions to keep the room looking perfect day in and day out.
To keep it looking clean…spot clean.
Nothing says clean like a freshly vacuumed floor. Keeping it vacuumed also forces you to keep it picked up! Make sure to enlist the kids’ help in picking up toys. The rule we follow is that no one is allowed to move on to the next game or activity until the current one is picked up. This is a good rule of thumb for any room of the house! For all of those greasy fingerprints on the TV and cabinets, I use
Pledge® Multi Surface Wipes. Just grab the wipe and start to clean down. If you sweep through the room at least on a nightly basis you will not have to spend a lot of time deep cleaning.
To keep it looking organized…give everything a home.
Try to keep the larger toys to a minimum and hide frequently used toys in a toy box or inside an ottoman. Keep DVD’s together in their original cases, and preferably in a cabinet or higher up shelf. If you keep your DVD’s in alphabetical order then they always have a home and will not pile up near the DVD player. Lastly, if extra things are always being left in the family room, maybe it’s time to find those items a home IN the family room. For example, if your child constantly leaves a blanket in the family room, try to find a cabinet or cupboard in (or very near) the family room for the blankets.
Now you can be the envy of all of YOUR friends with your clean and organized family room.
