Materials

  • Solid-colored apron*, preferably white or light colored
  • Computer
  • Printer
  • Download chili pepper stencil
  • 1 sheet white paper or transparency paper (depending on your printer's capabilities)
  • Mounting glue (any crafts glue)
  • Contact paper with adhesive backing
  • Craft knife (available at art supply stores)
  • Cutting board
  • Masking tape
  • Textile paints (ruby red and olive green)
  • Stencil brushes
  • Paper towels
  • Iron and ironing board

Instructions

step 1Order an apron (see online sources below). Consider washing, drying and ironing the apron before crafting to avoid shrinkage.
step 2Download chili pepper stencil and print it out on a piece of white paper.
step 3Glue the stencil on top of the contact paper and set on a cutting board.
step 4Using a craft knife, cut out the stencil of the chili peppers along the dotted lines.
step 5Peel off the paper from the back of the contact paper.
step 6Position the stencil in the middle of the apron’s bib and press down firmly to avoid air pockets.
step 7Cover the stems of the peppers with masking tape.
step 8Dip the stencil brush into ruby red paint and remove excess on paper towel.
step 9Paint in the stencil by tapping the brush lightly on the apron. Use small amounts of paint and build up layers until the peppers reach the desired shade. Let dry 10 to 15 minutes.
step 10Remove the masking tape covering the stems and cover the peppers with masking tape. Dip the stencil brush into olive green and paint the stems.
step 11Remove the stencil carefully. Let dry 10 to 15 minutes.
step 12Heat-set by ironing on reverse side for 30 seconds at a temperature setting best suited to the fabric.

For my club's going green project, I put stamped green frogs and other green amphibians all over my apron....great project. I've also cut out animal heads from material, fused & ironed them onto the apron then embellished with glitter paint around the edges of the picture. Great Christmas presents for my daughters & grand-daughter.

Good grief, every craft page on this site should be filled with wonderful comments from users, instead just whining about "where is the download"? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to search the entire page for the link!

The Chili Peppers stencil is on the right side of the page, about 1/3 of the way down. Right next to the little red box - the Adobe Reader icon.
