Trapezoid Frame Magnet

Trapezoid Frame Magnet

The shape of this photo frame is a bit unusual -
trapezoid- but that is exactly what gives it its charm.

  • Straightedge or ruler
  • Adhesive magnetic sheeting, 5" x 7"

Light-colored pencil

Instructions

step 1Download our template for the trapezoid and print out on your computer.

step 2Using a scissors, cut around the outline of the trapezoid. Also, cut out the inner rectangle.
step 3Place this template on top of a piece of a thin foam sheet. Place a cutting board underneath.
step 4Using a utility knife, cut through the foam along the edges, holding the template tight on the foam. (Or you may want to draw the outline of the template onto the foam with a light-colored pencil and then cut out the foam, using a ruler to steady the blade. Remember to cut out the inside rectangle as well. (Note: make sure you cut firmly enough to penetrate the entire foam.)
step 5Repeat this process with the magnetic backing, using the template to cut out the trapezoid shape. Do not cut out the center of the magnetic backing. When you are finished, trim the magnetic trapezoid to a slightly smaller size than the foam sheet trapezoid so it will not peak out of the frame when attached.
step 6Choose a photograph that fits the frame of the inner rectangle. It should have an additional half-inch edge so you will be able to glue it to the back of the foam. When you are satisfied with the position, carefully glue the outer edges of the photo to the foam frame.
step 7Peel the paper backing off the magnetic sheet and carefully align it with the back of the foam frame. Press tightly together to adhere the surfaces.
step 8Be creative and add any stick-on symbols you especially like to frame your photo. Here, we have used soccer symbols—a whistle, trophy, soccer ball and the word GOAL—to honor our young players!

Like the mirror on the previous page, this project can also be done at a birthday party, either boys or girls. You can change the adornments to go with the sex or age of the kids at the birthday party or even use at a party where there may be boys & girls. What I like to do is as the kids arrive I take their picture with my digital camera and print them off on my printer. When they are finished their picture frames, their picture can be inserted. What a wonderful gift to let each kid take home. It also can be a wonderful memory keepsake. Again this is better than having to do those pesky gift bags for each kid.
