  • Enrich your life.

If you've enjoyed exotic travels over the holidays, create a bridge between your vacation and your "real life" with vibrant scents that remind you of your trip. That way you'll be able to carry the good energy of your vacation with you much longer. Find a scent that matches your visited locale, such as a Glade® Garden Retreat® or Glade® Hawaiian Breeze®.
  • Empower your good fortune.

Create new movement in your life and home by hanging a symbol of welcome on your front door. Marie Diamond suggests: if your front door faces north, east, or southeast, decorate with a bubbling fountain or blue ornaments; if your door faces northeast, south, or southwest, decorate with candles or red, purple, rose, or yellow ornaments. If your door faces north or northwest, place a wind chime nearby or decorate with white gold or silver.
  • Treat yourself like royalty.

If you regularly enter your home through a side or back door, give it a beauty treatment by planting lush plants or flowers nearby. This way you will always feel as if you are entering your "castle" as a king or queen, no matter which door you enter.
  • Soothe the soul.

Refresh your home this season by adding a new scent. Marie Diamond says that the scent of lavender helps release energies from the past and creates a welcoming embrace for guests. Refresh the air with Glade® Room Spray in Lavender & Vanilla and create an indoor garden of lavender with homemade soaps, sachets, and dried lavender bundles.
  • Ensure good dreams.

Invest in luxurious sheets for the New Year and make sure your bedroom is clean and dust-free. Plus, reconsider the artwork you hang in your bedroom. According to Marie Diamond, it is important to hang above your bed what you most want to dream about. For instance, if you want more romance in your life, hang a romantic picture. Avoid pictures of water, heavy rocks, or mountains above the bed, and most of all, never hang anything depressing. Happy images create happy dreams.
  • Generate love.

In the dead of winter, maximize your fireplace to generate more warmth and kinship in your family. Marie Diamond suggests sprinkling a few drops of essential oil (sandalwood, cinnamon, orange, rose, lemon, or rosemary) on a log before burning. If a fireplace is at the center of your home, add a still water element to the room such as a bowl with floating candles or water plants to stabilize finances and ease tension between family members. Scented candles placed throughout your home—in the bathroom, bedroom, living room, or entrance hall—lift the spirits and enliven the space. Give new life to relationships by making sure framed photos show the most recent pictures of friends and family.

I would also include some greenery in the room, whether real or artificial. The greenery creats a sense of warmth in the room so that you want to stay in it and relax.

I have a wonderful home, but I'm having problems with two rooms that run into each other. My dining room & my living room. All the walls are wormy chestnut we have a massive stone fire place in the living room. Some of your tips are helpful, but we also have wall2wall carpet the color is cream which I hate because we have 4 cats. Need some hints on floors for our home or color palet. I would really love to have someone come over just to design my rooms, it would be so much easier:)
