Materials

  • Dried Rosemary leaves
  • 2 cups distilled water
  • 1½ teaspoons of lavender oil
  • 1½ teaspoons of rosemary oil
  • 3 cups clear or white glycerin soap base*
  • Soap molds (muffin tins, special soap mold, etc.)
  • ¼ cup infusion of lavender flowers and rosemary leaves

Instructions

step 1 Pulverize dried rosemary in a food processor, or buy ready-made.
step 2 Make the infusion of lavender flowers and rosemary leaves first. (Infusion basically means "to make tea.") Boil distilled water (non-chlorinated water is best) and pour hot water over fresh or dried herbs. Three tablespoons of herb per cup of water for ten minutes should suffice.
step 3 Add the lavender oil and rosemary oil to the infusion.
step 4 Melt soap base and add ¼ cup of infusion per 1 cup of soap base. Stir until blended and then pour into molds.
step 5 Let sit for a month so that mold is completely set.

*Craft Tip:

To achieve soap that is lavender colored, use "white" glycerin soap, rather than "clear." Then, before pouring into the mold, tint with "soap dyes" made especially for soap making, combining red and blue until desired lavender tint is achieved.

This is a great craft.. My daughter has been making soaps , she is loving it! and so am I. I have printed the above receipe..she can add them to her others. Another nice one she makes is with sea salts and sea weed.. But I read one of the other comments..on leaving the for an hour to set...that is what my daughter does.. 1 month ?? Why?? Also, she buys her glycerin base in a soap shop..I bet she pays too much for it. So where can I find as craft store in Montreal, Quebec. that would sell glycerin base... Where will I find the answers to my questions and also interested in some of the answers other ladies requested.??
