Bathroom Cleaning 101

The basics you need to know for a sparkling clean bathroom.

Did you know that most people would rather clean their garage than their bathrooms? While a grimy bathroom may seem daunting, you only need to master a few basic tricks to keep it sparkling clean. Follow this handy guide to making bathroom cleaning quick and easy:

Daily maintenance

Stop wasting time searching for and gathering supplies when you're ready to clean. Stash a bucket filled with your favorite products in each bathroom.

Touch up surfaces

Keep biodegradable Scrubbing Bubbles® Antibacterial Bathroom Wipes in a drawer to quickly touch up bathroom surfaces at the end of each day.

Freshen up the toilet

Use Scrubbing Bubbles® Fresh Brush® Starter Kit & Caddy to clean under the rim and remove everyday soil easily. The textured scrubby pads included are designed to quickly break up during flushing so when you're done you can just flush the pad (and the dirt and germs) away.

Feed the hamper

Toss dirty clothes and towels into a hamper. Consider keeping one near each bathroom so towels will be less likely to hit the floor.

Check the paper supply

Don't get caught with an empty roll! To conserve paper and save a bit of money, squish the roll slightly so it doesn't dispense as smoothly. Bathroom visitors will be more apt to take just what they need, rather than letting the paper roll wastefully to the floor.

Let in some fresh air

If your bathroom door is closed all day, open the door or a window to air out the room and reduce humidity.

Once a week tasks

Each of these tasks should take about 5 minutes to complete—especially if you’re already on top of daily maintenance.

Scrub the tub

Give the tub a deep clean with a product that removes soap scum. Scrubbing Bubbles® Bathroom Cleaner sprays on blue and turns white as it cleans, meaning you’ll scrub less.

Make glass and chrome shine

Use Windex® Original Glass Cleaner on mirrors and the inside of windows. It quickly cleans off tough dirt and grime, leaving behind a streak-free shine.

Stamp your toilet

Keep your toilet bowl clean and fresh with Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel. The dispenser makes it easy to stamp the gel under the rim so there's no need to touch the disk or bowl with your hands.

Clean the waste basket

Before you replace the trash bag in your bathroom wastebasket, wipe it out with Windex® Disinfectant Cleaner Multi-Surface.

Hang fresh towels

Store the towels you don’t use every day (like towels for guests or the beach) in Ziploc® Space Bag® products to save space.

Eliminate toiletry clutter

Pour the last bits of shampoo, shower gel, or lotion into travel size bottles to use at the gym or on vacation.

Hit the floor

Sweep (or vacuum) and mop on your way out the door. Use Pledge® FloorCare Wood Squirt & Mop to clean your floors and bring out their natural beauty.

Tend to the plants

Many varieties thrive in a bathroom's moist environment. To keep them looking their best, gently wipe dust off plant leaves with a damp cloth.

Seasonal cleaning

Set the timer! Some of these tasks can be completed in as little as 20 minutes if you keep up with daily and weekly cleaning.

Clean soft goods

Launder curtains, rugs and cloth shower curtains according to the label instructions. After washing the shower curtain, hang immediately and let it air-dry to prevent wrinkles.

Clear out the cabinets

Take everything out of the medicine cabinet and put back only those items you use daily (store everything else). And, despite the name, it’s not always a good idea to store medicine in a medicine cabinet—heat and moisture can cause meds to expire prematurely.

Restock supplies

In addition to refilling your cleaning supplies, check light bulbs, toilet paper, cotton balls and guest towels. Organize and store these items in Ziploc® brand containers to make it easier to see where everything is.
